July 29, 2022 – At the international ILA air show in Berlin, Diehl Defense and Elbit Systems signed a cooperation agreement on June 23, 2022 for the equipping of aircraft of the German armed forces with a protection system.
The agreement is a continuation of a fruitful cooperation on the Directed Infrared Counter Measure System, abbreviated DIRCM, existing since 2014. In this context, Diehl Defense associates three SJ-MUSICTM (Multi-Spectral Infrared Countermeasure) devices from the Israeli manufacturer to build a DIRCM system providing 360° protection for the aircraft. The DIRCM is being installed on the A400M and undergoing certification.
The DIRCM system is used to protect large military and civilian aircraft against infrared-guided missile attacks. The protection system is designed in such a way that it is connected to the guided missile warning system and the defensive aid system via interfaces. It can be operated in all phases of flight without endangering urban or forest areas. Diehl Defense also provides Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) for the DIRCM system, as well as customer services in the field of repair, service and maintenance.
Beyond that, the two companies intend to cooperate on the smaller version of the DIRCM, namely the MDS (mini DIRCM system). The MDS is particularly suitable for helicopters, but also for small planes.
The DIRCM system complements Diehl Defense’s product portfolio in the field of protection systems comprising the segments of aircraft protection, vehicle protection and HPEM effector systems.
