Having recently bolstered its reputation as an expert in silo safety by working with the Mineral Products Association (MPA) on new guidelines for safer pressure tanker deliveries, Hycontrol Ltd announces the launch of the Silo Protection System Updated SHIELD Lite (SPS).
The revised SPS is smaller than previous versions, with all critical top-of-the-silo safety components integrated and pre-wired to provide a simpler, easier and less expensive installation. This design allows for safe deliveries right out of the box, reducing the chance of wiring errors. Using specially designed pressure monitoring and control equipment, SHIELD Lite meets and exceeds current best practices, including those of the new MPA guidelines.
Powder storage silos are used in many industries, but are exposed to the risk of overpressure during tank truck deliveries. Pressures as low as 1 psi are enough to rupture a silo or forcibly eject the filtration unit from the roof. Besides the physical danger and risk of death from falling equipment, it can lead to massive equipment damage and environmental pollution. A comprehensive, fail-safe security and control system is essential to avoid such disastrous outcomes.
SHIELD Lite provides a fully automated self-test security system that removes the risk of human error from the delivery process by carefully monitoring and controlling it. High precision pressure safety components are pre-assembled and wired for simple installation. Additionally, SHIELD Lite incorporates Hycontrol’s Ground Level Testing (GLT), whereby a single turn of the key activates a comprehensive functional test of all crucial safety components without climbing the silo.
“We’ve been insisting for many years that simplicity is the key to safety, so we’ve created a system that will make a silo safe right out of the box,” said Hycontrol Managing Director Nigel Allen. “With built-in safeguards such as ratio alarms, filter blockage warnings and driver delivery behavior diagnostics, we can effectively eliminate the risk of human error. We understand that maintenance and testing errors are inevitable. Our philosophy is to accept this and provide a system that safely monitors and alerts you when these errors occur. The safety of staff, contractors and drivers should always be the number one priority. As we say, safe silos are tested every time.
